Starting the second day of his activities in Peru, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, received a visit from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Thursday (11/14/2024). The warm meeting took place at a hotel in Lima, Peru, where President Prabowo was staying during his state visit.
Arriving at around 9:25 a.m. local time, President Prabowo warmly greeted PM Albanese in the hotel lobby. After exchanging greetings and handshakes, President Prabowo invited PM Albanese to one of the hotel’s restaurants for breakfast together.
In a relaxed atmosphere, the two engaged in a warm conversation while enjoying their breakfast. President Prabowo opened the discussion by expressing his gratitude for Australia’s support and the representatives who attended his inauguration as President.
“Once again, I deeply appreciate you for sending your representative to attend my inauguration,” said President Prabowo.
PM Albanese also personally congratulated Prabowo on his election as President of the Republic of Indonesia. He apologized for being unable to attend the inauguration due to accompanying the King of England on a visit.
“Thank you very much for inviting me to meet this morning. Once again, congratulations on your electoral victory,” said Albanese.
This meeting was an important moment for both leaders to discuss a range of strategic issues in Indonesia-Australia bilateral relations and to strengthen partnerships in various fields. The breakfast meeting was also expected to reinforce the foundation of diplomatic relations and foster closer strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Australia in the future.
Accompanying President Prabowo during the meeting were Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Meanwhile, the Australian delegation included Kathy Klugman, Senior Advisor for International Affairs at the Australian PM’s Office, and Pablo Kang, First Assistant Secretary of the International Division at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
