Jorge Martin has been crowned the 2024 MotoGP World Champion. Marc Marquez congratulated the Pramac Ducati rider on his achievement.
The final race of this MotoGP season took place at the Catalunya Circuit on Sunday evening (11/17/2024). Francesco Bagnaia emerged as the winner, followed by Marquez and Martin.
Finishing on the third podium was enough for Martin to secure the world championship title. The “Martinator” topped the standings with 508 points, 10 points ahead of Bagnaia.
Martin set an impressive record by becoming the first independent team rider in the MotoGP era to claim the championship.
This accomplishment places Martin among an elite list of independent team riders who have won world motorbike racing championships. He follows in the footsteps of Valentino Rossi (2001), Franco Uncini (1982), Marco Lucchinelli (1981), and Kenny Roberts (1978).
Eight-time world champion Marc Marquez extended his congratulations to Martin. The “Baby Alien” also expressed his gratitude to Gresini Racing, which accompanied him this season.
Marquez is parting ways with Gresini Racing to join Ducati’s factory team next season. Ducati chose MM93 over promoting Martin to the factory team.
“It was a great race, but first of all, I want to congratulate Jorge Martin, the world champion,” Marquez said after the MotoGP Barcelona 2024 race, as quoted by Marca.
“I was very focused, as if I were fighting for the world championship. It was my way of thanking Gresini, this wonderful family,” he explained.
