Pramac Racing rider Jorge Martin successfully won the 2024 MotoGP championship. Remarkably, Pramac Racing and Jorge Martin have become the first independent team and rider to win the MotoGP championship in the modern era.
Martin secured the MotoGP 2024 title with 508 points, finishing 10 points ahead of runner-up Francesco Bagnaia. Martin finished third in the final race of the 2024 MotoGP season, held at the Catalunya Circuit in Barcelona on Sunday evening (11/17).
The achievements of Pramac Racing and Martin mark a sweet ending to their journey with Ducati. Starting in the 2025 MotoGP season, Pramac will switch brands to Yamaha, while Martin will race for the factory Aprilia Racing team.
This accomplishment is a remarkable milestone for Pramac Racing as an independent team. Owned by Paolo Campinotti, the team has long aspired to win the MotoGP championship. With a factory-spec Ducati Desmosedici bike and talented riders like Jorge Martin, Campinotti’s ambitions did not seem far-fetched.
“They (Ducati factory team) gave me a ‘gift’ by choosing Enea Bastianini (as the factory rider). Because in my opinion, Martin is one of the strongest riders on the grid, he is incredibly strong,” Campinotti said at the end of 2022.
“My dream is to win the world championship with an independent team; that would be fantastic,” he added. Now, Campinotti and Pramac Racing’s dream has come true. Together with Martin, they won the MotoGP championship as their collaboration with Ducati comes to an end.
Pramac Racing and Jorge Martin have now been recognized as the first independent team and rider to claim the world championship title since the MotoGP format was first introduced in 2002.
