The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has disclosed the seizure of several assets belonging to Hendry Lie, a suspect in the alleged corruption case involving the management of tin commodity trading in the mining license area of PT Timah Tbk from 2015 to 2022.
“All assets of the suspects in this case have been traced, identified, and seized, including those belonging to Hendry Lie,” said Abdul Qohar, Director of Investigations for the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the AGO, during a press conference at the AGO building in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/19/2024).
One of the seized assets is a property in Bali. “Many plots of land and buildings have been seized, including one located in Bali,” he stated.
In August 2024, the AGO seized a villa owned by Hendry in Bali, situated on a 1,800-square-meter plot of land, with an estimated value of approximately IDR 20 billion.
Hendry Lie is suspected of being the beneficial owner of PT Tinindo Inter Nusa (PT TIN), which actively collaborated in renting tin smelting equipment between PT Timah Tbk and PT TIN. The tin ore smelted came from illegal mining operations through two fictitious companies, CV BPR and CV SFS, which were deliberately set up to receive the mining output.
The actions involving Hendry and several other suspects are estimated to have caused state losses amounting to IDR 300 trillion.
Hendry is charged with violating Article 2(1) or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55(1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP).
Hendry is currently being detained at the Salemba Detention Center, South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office Branch, for the next 20 days as part of ongoing legal proceedings. The AGO emphasized that it will continue a thorough investigation of all related assets to recover state losses.
