President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday afternoon (11/18/2024) local time. During the meeting, Prabowo expressed a desire to strengthen cooperation with India in the fields of health and health education.

“In the field of education, we hope to increase the number of Indonesian students studying at institutions in India. Additionally, we invite Indian professors and teachers to teach in our country,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo noted that many Indian companies are already investing in Indonesia, and he is pleased that these investments include the health and pharmaceutical sectors.
“We are opening up the health sector by allowing foreign hospitals to operate in Indonesia,” he said.

According to Prabowo, the main reason for expanding cooperation in health and health education is that Indonesia continues to face a shortage of medical professionals.
“We are short of 160,000 medical personnel, and we can only graduate 8,000 people each year. Therefore, I plan to open more medical universities. In this regard, we may need to send some specialists from India to teach at our universities,” Prabowo concluded.
