Jakarta gubernatorial candidate No. 2, Dharma Pongrekun, said he is unbothered by Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially endorsing gubernatorial candidate pair No. 1, Ridwan Kamil and Suswono.
“I’m not worried; we have God,” Dharma stated in a Kompas TV YouTube video on Tuesday (11/19/2024).
Dharma emphasized his faith in God’s power, choosing not to be concerned about Jokowi’s support for Ridwan Kamil. Instead, he focuses on garnering maximum public support to fight for the people’s rights.
“Which is more powerful, God or Jokowi? If we are people of faith, then God, who owns the universe, is supreme. Don’t compare humans to God,” Dharma said.
“Pak Kun (my running mate) and I have been tasked by the people to reclaim sovereignty with the full support of Jakarta’s citizens—to take back the people’s rights from those who have plundered them and return them to the rightful owners, the people as the highest sovereign authority,” he added.
Jokowi’s Endorsement of Ridwan Kamil and Suswono
It was previously reported that Jokowi had officially declared his support for Ridwan Kamil and Suswono in the 2024 Jakarta Regional Election (Pilkada).
“Why do I support Ridwan Kamil? Because of his track record,” Jokowi stated during a speech in a meeting in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, on Monday (11/18/2024).
According to Jokowi, Ridwan’s proven track record as the Mayor of Bandung and his experience as the Governor of West Java demonstrate his leadership capabilities.
Jokowi also pointed out Ridwan’s educational background in architecture and urban planning as another reason why Jakarta residents should vote for him.
“In terms of track record, he has it; in terms of knowledge, he has it. What more do you need? Who else would you choose?” Jokowi said emphatically.
