Indonesia emerged victorious in their match against Saudi Arabia, marking the Garuda Squad’s first-ever win over the Green Falcons.
Indonesia hosted Saudi Arabia at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK) on Tuesday night (11/19/2024 WIB) during Matchday 6 of Group C in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Asian Qualifiers. Needing a win to keep their chances of advancing alive, Indonesia played an attacking game from the opening minute.
Their efforts paid off as they led 1-0 at halftime through a goal by Marselino Ferdinan. Marselino’s second goal early in the second half sealed a 2-0 victory for Shin Tae-yong’s team.
As a result, Indonesia temporarily moved up to third place in Group C with six points from six matches, trailing Australia by one point in second place and ahead of Saudi Arabia in fourth on goal difference.
Before this match, Indonesia had never won in 13 meetings with Saudi Arabia, recording two draws and 11 losses. Their heaviest defeat came in the 2004 Asian Cup Qualifiers when they were thrashed 0-6 on October 17, 2003.
In those 13 encounters, Indonesia scored just six goals while conceding 42. Congratulations to Indonesia for finally breaking the streak!
