President Prabowo Subianto received Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. In his statement after the meeting, the Minister shared that the discussion revolved around several policies, including the introduction of computer programming or coding education in schools and the evaluation of the zoning policy for new student admissions (PPDB).
“We presented several initiatives, including our policy to introduce coding education as part of the curriculum or as an elective subject in schools, starting at the elementary level. We are considering whether it should begin from Grade 4 or later, and it can be implemented as an elective subject in schools. The President strongly supports the idea of coding education in schools,” Abdul Mu’ti stated.
Regarding the PPDB zoning policy, the Minister mentioned that President Prabowo has instructed a more in-depth study of its implementation. He explained that decisions on this matter would be made during a cabinet meeting with President Prabowo.
“We are studying and analyzing the weaknesses of the current system. Hopefully, by the 2025–2026 academic year, we will be able to implement a new zoning system, which we are continuously reviewing, with the final decision to be made in a cabinet meeting,” explained the Minister.
During the occasion, Abdul Mu’ti also briefed President Prabowo about the plans for the 2024 National Teachers’ Day Grand Celebration, scheduled to take place on November 28, 2024, at the Jakarta International Velodrome.
“We conveyed our request for the President to officially open and deliver a keynote speech at the 2024 National Teachers’ Day Grand Celebration, themed Great Teachers, Strong Indonesia,” Abdul Mu’ti said. (BPMI Setpres/ABD)
