Muratara – A clash occurred at the Rawas Ilir Subdistrict Office in Musi Rawas Utara (Muratara), South Sumatra, during the transfer of ballot boxes. As a result, one person was reported to be in critical condition after being attacked with a machete.
The incident took place at the Rawas Ilir Subdistrict Office, Beringin Makmur II Village, Rawas Ilir District, Musi Rawas Utara, South Sumatra, on Wednesday (November 27) at around 10:00 PM WIB.
A Rawas Ilir resident, Deni, explained that the clash happened when a group supporting one of the candidates for Muratara Regent arrived at the subdistrict office, where ballot counting was in progress. Suddenly, another group supporting a different candidate also arrived, leading to a confrontation and subsequent brawl.
“The clash at the subdistrict office happened because the ballot boxes had already been collected there, and they were preparing for a plenary session. Suddenly, a group from one team started a commotion. The issue was related to the regional election, but we don’t know which side it was,” Deni said when contacted by detikSumbagsel on Wednesday (November 27, 2024).
Deni revealed that one person sustained a severe head injury after being attacked with a machete.
“We don’t know the total number of victims yet, but it’s crowded at the subdistrict office right now. One person was slashed with a machete on the head and has been taken to the Bingin Teluk Community Health Center,” he said.
Deni added that it remains unclear which candidate’s supporters were involved in the clash.
“We still don’t know which candidate’s team was involved, but many police officers have arrived at the scene,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Rawas Ilir Police Chief Iptu Herwan Oktariansyah confirmed the clash at the Rawas Ilir Subdistrict Office.
“Yes, but the exact details are unclear at the moment. We are still investigating. Once we have confirmed everything, we will provide an update,” he said.
Herwan stated that the Rawas Ilir Police are currently investigating the clash at the scene and have taken the injured person to the health center.
“We are still investigating the perpetrators and victims because this just happened. We are still processing the scene,” he said.
