Jakarta – Gerindra Party politician Maruarar Sirait has announced a reward of IDR 8 billion for anyone who can capture Harun Masiku, a fugitive in the bribery case involving interim parliamentary replacements (PAW). The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has expressed appreciation for Maruarar’s initiative.
The announcement has gone viral on social media platform X, as observed by detikcom on Thursday (November 28, 2024). In the video, Maruarar Sirait was initially awaiting a book titled Politics is Sacred, which was promised to him by PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto.
Maruarar then touched on major cases in Indonesia involving prominent figures, highlighting the Harun Masiku case.
“I am using my energy, for instance, to help and mobilize my network for a major case I believe involves significant figures in this republic, the case of Harun Masiku. Who is Harun Masiku that he cannot be captured for years?” Maruarar said in the viral video.
He promised IDR 8 billion of his own money as a reward for anyone who can capture Harun Masiku. Maruarar expressed disbelief that Harun remains a fugitive to this day.
“I will offer a reward of IDR 8 billion from my personal funds to anyone who captures Harun Masiku, to boost morale and ensure that no one in this country is above the law. I will use God’s blessings to help eradicate corruption in Indonesia. Let’s work together to find Harun Masiku, Mas Hasto, so everything can be clear,” he said.
“Why has Harun Masiku disappeared? Who made him vanish? What’s behind his case? What is he involved in? That’s the point, Mas Hasto. Politics is sacred—defending the truth, helping the weak, and exposing major cases that have been covered up,” he added.
Maruarar Explains His Viral Video
Maruarar later clarified his statement in the viral video, emphasizing that the reward is meant to uphold justice.
“So that the truth is upheld,” Maruarar briefly responded when asked for confirmation about his statement.
He explained that the reward is intended to encourage public participation, stressing that Indonesia is a country governed by law, and the law must be enforced.
“Public participation, a rule-of-law country, and the law must be upheld,” he said.
KPK’s Appreciation
Meanwhile, KPK Deputy Chairperson Johanis Tanak praised Maruarar’s statement. He confirmed that the KPK is still actively pursuing Harun Masiku.
“KPK continues to make efforts to arrest Harun Masiku. Therefore, we should appreciate the positive action taken by Mr. Maruarar Sirait,” Tanak said.
Tanak further stated that Maruarar’s action deserves recognition, as he is willing to sacrifice his wealth to ensure Harun is captured.
“His stance is certainly exemplary and deserves recognition, as he is taking extraordinary action for the greater good,” he said.
“He is the only person willing to sacrifice his wealth to ensure that a fugitive in a corruption case is captured and processed according to the law,” Tanak concluded.
