Lab Test Results of Pertamax Confirm it Meets Specifications, Debunking Claims of Fuel Pump Damage

Jakarta – A viral video circulating on social media claims that car fuel filters and fuel pumps were damaged after using Pertamax fuel. Pertamina quickly intervened to verify the quality of the fuel it sells.

The video widely shared on social media mentions that the cars affected were serviced at the Daihatsu workshop in Cibinong. Not just one, but several cars reportedly had their fuel drained due to similar issues. Some vehicles even experienced damage to their fuel pumps. Technicians at the workshop were seen dismantling the fuel tanks and draining the fuel.

In response to these incidents, Pertamina confirmed the quality of Pertamax by conducting laboratory tests. The results showed that Pertamax meets the technical specifications set by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Dirjen Migas) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

“The results of the Lemigas lab tests confirm that Pertamax is on-spec according to the Dirjen Migas standards. The public need not worry about the quality of Pertamax,” said Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Heppy Wulansari in a written statement.

Regarding reports of engine issues experienced by certain vehicles at specific locations, Heppy stated that Pertamina is conducting further investigations into the cause. The research is being done in collaboration with LAPI ITB to understand the factors contributing to engine problems in certain vehicle brands and models.

“We are still conducting studies as the engine issues are only occurring in certain vehicle brands and models at specific locations. Therefore, we need to examine the details of the causes of engine malfunctions in those areas,” said Heppy.

Pertamina Patra Niaga has taken samples from the fuel stations where the affected vehicles refueled, as well as fuel samples from the vehicles that experienced problems. These samples were then sent to Lemigas for further testing.

“Pertamina will continue to monitor fuel quality and take responsibility for the products we distribute. We are committed to ensuring the best quality for our customers and will not hesitate to conduct evaluations if necessary,” Heppy explained.

Pertamina also urged consumers to always use fuel according to their vehicle specifications and to regularly perform maintenance at authorized service centers to maintain engine performance.

Daihatsu Launches Investigation

The viral video in question is reportedly from the Daihatsu workshop in Cibinong. Regarding the mass damage to fuel filters and fuel pumps, Daihatsu has also launched its own investigation.

“We are currently conducting a thorough investigation. Daihatsu is committed to ensuring the quality and safety of the products we market,” said Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing Director & Corporate Communication Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), to detikOto on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
