Jakarta – State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir stated that the reduction in domestic airfares serves as a middle ground for both travelers and the aviation industry entrepreneurs.
Domestic airfares have finally decreased, although not significantly, by up to 10 percent.
Erick mentioned that this reduction in airfare prices will make it easier for people who want to travel during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holiday period. He stated that the price reduction is the result of strong synergy between the Ministry of SOEs and the Ministry of Transportation, as well as full support from President Prabowo Subianto.
“We highly appreciate President Prabowo’s direction and support in efforts to reduce airfare prices. This is a tangible step to help the public and boost national tourism growth,” Erick said, as quoted from Antara, Tuesday (3/12/2024).
In a Cabinet Plenary Session at the Presidential Palace, President Prabowo instructed his ministers to ensure the aviation industry’s stability following the implementation of a 10 percent reduction in airfare prices for the year-end holidays.
Prabowo said that reducing transportation costs for flights at the end of the year is the right policy, but the health of the aviation industry must still be considered.
“Usually, prices rise before the year-end or holiday season. We can lower airfare a little to help the people. But we must also be cautious to ensure that this reduction does not harm the aviation industry,” he said.
The President also advised the Cabinet leaders to strengthen collaboration in preparation for securing and managing all activities related to the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year celebrations.
With this policy in the first 100 days of Prabowo’s administration, it is hoped that the public will enjoy more affordable and comfortable holidays, while also boosting trust in the government’s management of the transportation and tourism sectors.
