Jakarta – A woman from Kapanewon Ponjong, Gunungkidul, identified as NW (25), reported being the victim of a scam in which the perpetrator promised her a job at the Gunungkidul Tourism Department (Dispar).
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Gunungkidul Police, AKP Achmad Mirza, stated that the incident began when the victim, NW, met the suspect, identified as AN, at a bank in Ponjong on Monday (February 19, 2024). They then engaged in a conversation that led to a discussion about employment.
“AN promised NW a job at the Gunungkidul Tourism Department. However, NW was required to pay a certain amount of money to AN first,” said Achmad to the press on Monday (December 2, 2024).
Upon receiving the offer, NW became interested and agreed to pay AN the requested sum.
“AN then asked for Rp 80 million, which was paid by the victim,” he added.
However, NW never received any job offer from the Gunungkidul Tourism Department. Furthermore, NW could no longer contact AN.
“Feeling scammed, the victim reported the incident to the Gunungkidul Police on October 5, 2024,” he explained.
Achmad mentioned that the police have asked five people for clarification, but not AN, as the suspect failed to attend the inquiry.
“AN was invited to provide clarification but did not show up,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Gunungkidul Tourism Department, Oneng Windu Wardana, confirmed that he was aware of the incident. According to him, becoming a civil servant (ASN) requires a selection process, namely CPNS (State Civil Apparatus Candidates) and PPPK (Government Employees with Work Agreements).
“Even the children of government officials must go through the selection process to become ASN. So, it is not possible to pay money to get a job at the Gunungkidul Tourism Department,” he explained.
