Jakarta – Semarang Police Chief Kombes Irwan Anwar has apologized to the public regarding the shooting incident involving his officer and a 17-year-old vocational school student, identified as G. He acknowledged that his officer had violated regulations concerning the use of firearms.
“As the superior of Brigadier R, on this occasion, I would like to sincerely apologize to the public, especially the people of Semarang, and particularly to the family of the late Ananda Gamma,” said Irwan during a hearing with the Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Irwan stated that Aipda Robig Zaenudin had ignored police principles regarding the use of firearms. He said that Robig was careless in using the firearm.
“And for all the actions of my member, Brigadier R, who neglected the principles of force usage, failed to assess the situation properly, was careless in using the firearm, and acted with excessive force, actions that were unnecessary,” Irwan continued.
Irwan took full responsibility for his officer’s actions. He stated that he was prepared to undergo an evaluation and accept the consequences of the incident.
“I am fully responsible, I am ready to be evaluated, whatever the terms are, I am prepared to face the consequences of this event,” he added.
It is known that the police have detained Aipda R in connection with the death of G, a student of SMKN 4 Semarang. The police emphasized that the case will be handled transparently.
“We will present the process transparently. Indeed, there was a brawl or conflict, with video evidence that we presented. We are taking legal action against our member for excessive action. This process is being monitored by our internal oversight unit, Itwasum, the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), the media, and the Propam Division,” said the Head of Public Relations for the Central Java Police, Kombes Artanto, during a press conference in Semarang on Wednesday, November 27.
