Current Condition of Singapore’s Prime Minister After Testing Positive for COVID-19

Jakarta – Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. This is his first time contracting the virus.

In a Facebook post at 6:52 PM, PM Wong stated that he woke up in the morning with a severe sore throat after a series of overseas business trips. Initially, he thought he had caught the flu, but he took a COVID-19 test to confirm. “Turns out, I finally succumbed to COVID-19 after all these years!” he said in the post, as quoted by the Strait Times.

“Overall, I feel fine and will isolate myself while working from home,” added PM Wong, who will turn 52 on December 18.

After being diagnosed, PM Wong will continue his work from home as he needs to follow isolation procedures for a while.

He also advised the public to get flu vaccines and the latest COVID-19 vaccination, especially since many people in Singapore are traveling during the holiday season. Vaccination is essential to protect the people of Singapore from harmful viruses as they spend time with their loved ones during the end-of-year holidays.

In addition to vaccination, it is important to wear masks and take necessary precautions if feeling unwell.

Previously, PM Wong served as the deputy chair of the multi-ministry task force managing COVID-19 during the pandemic.

Earlier, PM Wong had undertaken overseas trips to several countries. From November 10 to 16, Wong attended the APEC Leaders’ Summit in Peru. He also participated in the G20 Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18 and 19.
