Jakarta – Viktor Axelsen will not participate in the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals. The Danish shuttler has withdrawn due to an injury.

The 2024 BWF World Tour Finals will take place in Hangzhou, China, from December 11 to 15. Axelsen is the champion of the men’s singles category for the last three editions and holds the most titles in this tournament. He has also won the event twice in the Super Series Finals format. However, he is now set to lose his title due to a left foot injury.

“Unfortunately, I will not be participating in the HSBC World Tour Finals this December. I am dealing with an injury to my left foot, which is causing a lot of problems, and I have been advised to address it immediately to avoid long-term issues,” he stated on social media.

“I am very disappointed not to be able to compete in Hangzhou. I’ve won this tournament five times, and since it’s one of my favorite tournaments, this situation is difficult to accept.”

“Nevertheless, my priority is to be 100% healthy before competing. Thank you so much for your continuous support. It means a lot to me,” concluded the world number three.

Axelsen’s compatriot, Anders Antonsen, is the top seed in the men’s singles at the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals. Shi Yu Qi is seeded second, followed by Chou Tien-chen and Kodai Naraoka.
