Jakarta – A total of 1,100 XL Axiata employees took mass leave nationwide today, Friday (December 6, 2024). This action was taken to demand transparency in the merger process between XL Axiata and Smartfren.

The demand was directed at the shareholders, particularly Axiata Malaysia. Mustakim, the Chairman of the XL Axiata Workers’ Union, stated that from the beginning, the ongoing merger process of the telecommunications operators had not been transparent to the employees.

“Yes, today there is a nationwide mass leave of XL Axiata employees. Not only in Jakarta, but this action also involves employees in the regions. The latest count is close to 1,100 employees taking mass leave,” said Mustakim.

For context, as Mustakim mentioned, the total number of XL Axiata employees nationwide is 1,600. This means that the majority of employees participated in today’s mass leave action.

“This mass leave demands transparency in the merger process, which is the root cause of the problem, as there has been no clarity or openness of information from the holding company, Axiata Malaysia,” he added.

Initially, the XL Axiata Workers’ Union stated that the lack of transparency regarding the merger was limited to the employees. However, it turns out that even at the company’s board of directors level, there was no clear information.

“We’ve been asking for information from the BOD from the very beginning, but it turns out they too have not received any clarity. The information they received from Axiata has been very limited,” explained Mustakim.

However, Mustakim mentioned that the nationwide mass leave of XL Axiata employees would not affect important services to customers. However, if the shareholders fail to meet the employees’ demands, a larger action will be carried out in the future.
