Solo – The Secretary-General (Sekjen) of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, stated that Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), and his family are no longer part of PDIP. Jokowi responded by mentioning the term “individual party” four times.
“Well, it means the party is individual,” said Jokowi when met at a restaurant in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, on Thursday (5/12/2024). Jokowi was responding to the statement that he and his family were no longer part of PDIP.
Jokowi did not elaborate further on his statement. He repeated the same response when asked about his current non-affiliation with any political party.
“Yes, the party becomes individual, that’s it,” he said.
Jokowi also referred to “individual party” again when questioned about plans to join another party aside from PDIP. He gave the same answer when reporters asked about the possibility of offers from other parties.
“(Plans to join another party?) Individual party. (Offers from other parties?) Individual party,” he concluded.
Previously, as reported by detikNews, PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto spoke about Jokowi’s party membership status. Hasto emphasized that Jokowi is no longer part of the PDIP.
This was conveyed during a press conference at PDIP’s Party School in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta. Hasto also mentioned that Jokowi’s family is no longer part of the party.
“I reaffirm that Mr. Jokowi and his family are no longer part of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP),” said Hasto on Wednesday (4/12).
Hasto explained the reason behind this statement, noting that Jokowi’s actions no longer align with the ideals of the party, symbolized by the bull logo.
“Because the party’s ideals, which have been fought for since Bung Karno’s time, since the PNI when we built this republic, are no longer in line with his discussions and political practices,” Hasto concluded.
