Vientiane – Sydney Sari Hopper scored her first goal for the Indonesian Women’s National Team. That goal helped secure the title at the 2024 AFF Women’s Championship.
The Indonesian Women’s National Team won the 2024 AFF Women’s Cup on Thursday night (December 5, 2024) at the New Laos National Stadium in Vientiane, after defeating Cambodia 3-1.
Reva Octaviani was the star of the match, scoring two goals, while Sydney Sari Hopper also had an outstanding performance, contributing one goal and one assist.
It was Sydney Sari Hopper’s first-ever goal for the Indonesian Women’s National Team. The American-born player was called up by coach Satoru Mochizuki in July 2024.
Although born in the United States, Sydney Sari Hopper is not a naturalized player. She has Indonesian heritage from her mother and already held an Indonesian passport before joining the national team.
Sydney Sari Hopper made her debut for the Indonesian Women’s National Team during a friendly match against Hong Kong. The midfielder, who plays for the Dallas Baptist Patriots in the U.S. university league, was later brought into the squad for the 2024 AFF Women’s Cup.
Sydney Sari Hopper was very pleased with her first goal for the Indonesian Women’s National Team. The 17-year-old midfielder hopes to score more goals in the future.
“[Cambodia] is a very tough opponent, very difficult. This was an exciting match,” said Sydney Sari Hopper in an interview after the Indonesia vs Cambodia match at the 2024 AFF Women’s Cup.
“I’m happy to score my first goal at the international level, and I hope to score more in the future. Thank you to all the supporters,” she concluded.
