Jakarta – When talking about Leonardo DiCaprio, almost everyone would agree that he has been the golden boy of Hollywood since the ’80s, becoming one of the most sought-after actors by producers and directors. Meanwhile, in Bollywood, there’s Shah Rukh Khan, who seems to be a king there with his films that are always a major box office success.
The two have never worked together in a film until now, but who would have thought they almost starred together in a film titled Xtreme City?
According to Pinkvilla, the director and screenwriter, Paul Schrader, revealed that he had offered a film to both Shah Rukh Khan and Martin Scorsese. Both of them liked the script and were willing to work on the project.
This happened during their meeting in Berlin in 2011.
“I wanted to do it with Shah Rukh Khan and Leo. Actually, we all met in Berlin. Scorsese wanted to produce it. Shah Rukh was in Berlin, Leo was there, we all met about it. Shah Rukh Khan was the leader,” he shared in a podcast Pod Casty for Me.
Unfortunately, after the meeting and returning to India, Shah Rukh Khan lost interest in the project. Schrader mentioned that Shah Rukh had never worked with a director with an auteur-style approach, and he could sense that this would be a challenge for him.
He also pointed out that Shah Rukh had never worked or played a secondary role alongside an actor like Leonardo DiCaprio before. This doubt ultimately led to Xtreme City never getting made.
In the film, Shah Rukh Khan was supposed to portray a gangster character who would confront an American cop (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), whom he had previously saved while they were in India.
Well, hopefully, their collaboration can still come to fruition someday!
