Jakarta – Apple will launch the iPhone 17 Slim/Air next year with a thin body as a replacement for the iPhone Plus model. Now how thin the dimensions of the iPhone 17 Slim have been revealed.
According to a report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17 Slim body will be 2mm thinner than the current iPhone 16 Pro. The iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25mm thick, so the 2mm thinner iPhone 17 Slim will be about 6.25mm thick.
This latest report is in line with previous rumors that claimed the iPhone 17 Slim will be between 5mm to 6mm thick. iPhone 17 Slim will reportedly feature a 6.6-inch display and a single rear camera.
At 6.25mm thick, the iPhone 17 Pro will be the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever released. Currently, the title of the thinnest iPhone ever is held by the iPhone 6 with a thickness of 6.9mm.
The iPhone design is getting thicker, starting with the iPhone X and its successors. This change is due to the need for more space for the battery, camera lens, Face ID sensor, and others.
Apple will equip the iPhone 17 Slim with its own 5G modem chip, and its size will be smaller than the Qualcomm-made 5G modem chip used in the current iPhone, as quoted from MacRumors, Monday (9/12/2024).
Gurman said Apple is focusing on making the chip more integrated with other components to save space in the iPhone frame. The space that can be saved allows Apple to create the iPhone 17 Slim without sacrificing battery life, camera, or display quality.
The iPhone 17 Slim will be one of three devices to feature Apple’s custom 5G modem. Before being brought to the iPhone 17 Slim, the modem will debut in the iPhone SE 4 and entry-level iPad.
It is not yet known whether this modem will be used in the regular iPhone 17 or not. Gurman only said this modem will not be embedded in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
