Jakarta – A toll road spanning 3,020 kilometers (km) is ready to operate during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) 2024/2025 period. This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Toll Road Association (ATI), Subakti Syukur.
Subakti expressed readiness to welcome the public who will be traveling during the Nataru holiday 2024/2025. He mentioned that the toll roads spanning 3,020 km operating in Indonesia are in excellent condition and ready to serve the movement of people during the Nataru traffic flow. “We ensure that all toll road sections are in good condition, free from several maintenance works, and have prepared additional infrastructure and supporting facilities, including the readiness of service personnel in the field.” All ATI member toll road operators are ready to serve the public using toll roads throughout Indonesia,” said Subakti in his statement, quoted on Wednesday (12/11/2024).
They are also continuously coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works and other stakeholders for the readiness of several functional toll road sections. At least 120 km of new toll roads will be operational functionally to support traffic engineering during this Nataru period. Regarding the functional time policy, they follow the policies of the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Transportation, and the National Police Traffic Corps.
He explained that various toll infrastructure, facilities and infrastructure, and the readiness of service personnel have been prepared by the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) to welcome the Nataru traffic flow. In several toll road sections, lane widening has been carried out.
Subakti assured that the condition of the toll roads is guaranteed to be good, free from damage, potholes, and various repair works, equipped with complete signage, and road markings that are clearly visible, allowing for smooth passage. “All BUJT have confirmed to operate and standby additional units of toll transaction equipment, tow trucks, ambulances, patrol and rescue vehicles, surveillance cameras, and traffic management systems, as well as various other traffic engineering support equipment,” explained Subakti.
Functional Toll Roads
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of ATI, Kris Ade Sudiyono, stated that the toll roads expected to be operational during the Nataru period include the Solo-Jogja toll road, Kartasura-Purwomartani section for the Klaten-Prambanan segment; the Probolinggo-Banyuwangi Stage 1 Probolinggo-Besuki toll road for the Gending-Kraksaan segment; the Jakarta-Cikampek II South toll road for the Sadang-Kutanegara segment; the Pekanbaru-Padang toll road for the Padang-Sicincin segment; the Kuala Tanjung-Tebing Tinggi Parapat toll road for the Kuala Tanjung-IC Indrapura segment; the Binjai-Langsa Section 3 toll road for the Tanjung Pura-Pangkalan Brandan segment; and the Sigli-Banda Aceh Section 1 toll road for the Padang Tiji-Seulimeum segment.
According to Kris, the condition of these functional sections is not yet perfect and ideal in terms of signage, markings, road lighting, and connectivity between access roads and national or regional roads. For that reason, the public is urged to be very careful while using it and to comply with and follow the instructions of field officers.
In terms of infrastructure readiness, facilities and infrastructure, as well as service personnel which are the main domain of toll operators, Kris ensured that all BUJT members of ATI across Indonesia have prepared them well. Monitoring traffic conditions on toll roads in real-time can be directly accessed on various application platforms provided by toll operators or the Ministry of Public Works, which will be connected to various field cameras.
In the rest area, lane organization, parking capacity reports, sharing recommendations with regulated rest times, preparation of ready-to-eat and take-away meal packages, and other measures have been implemented. If the condition of the rest area on the toll road is crowded, Kris urged the public not to force themselves to rest on the roadside.
He also urged the public to utilize toll gate service offices, public service places, government agency offices, and others outside the toll road as temporary resting places. Specifically during this year’s Nataru, Kris requested coordination of traffic management on critical routes, especially at the connectivity points between toll road access and national or regional roads. “Congestion and traffic jams usually occur at several intersections and narrowing points on national and regional roads, which in turn affect the congestion on access roads and toll gates connected to those national/regional roads.” Therefore, the participation of local governments and regional authorities is essential for the smooth flow of traffic,” added Kris.
