Barcelona – Barcelona plans to sell the VIP boxes at Camp Nou Stadium to increase revenue this season. The goal is to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in the upcoming January transfer window.
As is known, Olmo and Victor could be registered at the beginning of this season because they both filled the salary slot of Andreas Christensen, who was absent due to injury. The Danish defender is expected to recover in January, and the registrations of Olmo and Victor are only valid until December 31.
To re-register both, Barcelona must seek new revenue. Last month, the Catalan giant claimed to have signed a new contract with Nike worth 1.7 billion euros for the next 14 years starting in 2024.
However, internal club sources questioned by The Athletic revealed that the annual funds obtained are still insufficient to loosen the salary cap set by LaLiga. Other sources of income need to be sought, and that’s where the option of selling VIP boxes comes into play.
Barcelona is looking for parties willing to commit to paying for the VIP box facilities at Camp Nou for 20 years, with potential revenue of 100-200 million Euros. So far, there has been no agreement, and if a sale occurs, it still needs LaLiga’s approval. Camp Nou itself is still under renovation, and currently, Barca is based at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Like in previous years, this season Barca is still struggling to register players. The long-term injuries suffered by several players turned out to be a ‘blessing’ to register several other players who were previously unable to be registered.
Besides Olmo and Victor, Inigo Martinez was also only able to be registered after Ronald Araujo got injured. Then there is Wojciech Szczesny who can be brought in to fill the slot of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is likely to be absent until the end of the season.
