Two-Day Bombing Attack in Sudan Kills 127 People

Jakarta – A total of 127 people were killed in Sudan due to barrel bombs and shootings in the war between the army and rapid support forces. (RSF). Hundreds of the dead were mostly civilians.
Reported by Reuters on Wednesday (11/12/2024), the war between the army and the RSF has been ongoing for 20 months. The war is getting more intense by the day as ceasefire efforts have stalled.
The army has intensified airstrikes in half of the country controlled by the RSF. Meanwhile, the RSF has launched attacks on villages and intense artillery strikes. Both are targeting densely populated civilian areas.
The pro-democracy Al-Fashir Resistance Committee said more than eight barrel bombs hit a market in the town of Kabkabiya in North Darfur on Monday (9/12). Emergency Lawyers, a human rights group, said more than 100 people were killed and hundreds more were injured.
The army often targets cities in North Darfur with airstrikes as they battle the RSF for control of the state capital, al-Fashir, which is their last stronghold in the region. However, they deny responsibility for the attack on Kabkabiya and assert that they have the right to target any location used by the RSF for military purposes.
A photo shared by Emergency Lawyers shows bodies covered in a mass grave. There is also a video seen by Reuters showing bloodied bodies scattered around the market.
The image also shows flames burning and people being pulled from the rubble of shops and fruit stalls. People can be heard crying and screaming in the recording, while others pray for the deceased.
In the video, a man’s voice can also be heard saying, “People are dying.” The video also shows armed men wearing the head coverings typically worn by RSF soldiers riding motorcycles.
An activist from Kabkabiya said that, although there are usually some soldiers in the market and other parts of the city, most of those present were civilians. He said 87 corpses had been identified, but some of them could not be identified due to the condition of the bodies being too damaged.
