Israel’s Latest Actions Will Double the Population in the Golan

Jakarta – Israel’s behavior is getting worse. Recently, Israel plans to double the population in the Golan.
From Reuters and Al Arabiya news agencies, Monday (12/16/2024), Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he would double the Israeli population in the Golan Heights area. Golan is known as a Syrian territory occupied by Tel Aviv.
The move has sparked controversy, considering that the Syrian opposition leader who overthrew Bashar al-Assad’s regime last week tends to be moderate.
Strengthening the Golan is strengthening the State of Israel, and this is very important right now. “We will continue to defend it, develop it, and live in it,” Netanyahu asserted in his statement.
Netanyahu’s office stated in its announcement that the Israeli government approved a plan worth more than 40 million Shekels to encourage demographic growth in the Golan. It was mentioned that Netanyahu submitted the plan to the Tel Aviv government considering the war and new fronts faced by Syria, and due to the desire to double the Golan’s population.
Analyst Avraham Levine from the Alma Research and Education Center, which specializes in Israel’s security challenges on its northern border, stated that approximately 31,000 Israeli citizens have lived and settled in the Golan. Most of them work in agriculture, including vineyards, and tourism.
