Coldplay Chill Under Haters’ Criticism, Chris Martin: We Deserve It

Jakarta – Chris Martin, the lead vocalist of Coldplay, seems to never care about criticism. In his interview with Rolling Stone for the January 2025 issue, he talked about his chill attitude in facing the harsh comments that his band often received since they started gaining worldwide fame with their debut album Parachutes in 2000.
For Chris Martin, criticism is a part of the music life. According to him, the world would be very boring if everyone had the same taste. “It would be very bad if we lived in a world where everyone had to like the same things,” Chris said casually on Saturday (21/12/2024).
He also explained that Coldplay is an easy target for critics.
“We won’t retaliate.” We are just four middle-class white men from England, and we deserve the criticism for what people like us have done.
Instead of wasting energy on debates, Coldplay prefers to spread love and positive vibes. Their philosophy now is very simple: fight hate, whether it comes from outside or from within. “We try to wave the flag of love, even for ourselves,” said Chris Martin with deep meaning.
Coldplay also has a clever trick to stay creative without overthinking. Since 2008, they have been following a pressure-free approach. If there’s an idea that feels authentic, just go for it.
This approach turned out to successfully allow Coldplay to freely explore their music. One example is their epic collaboration with legendary producer Brian Eno.
Even though they are often criticized, Coldplay continues to make history. From performing five times as the headliner at Glastonbury to the Music of the Spheres Tour, which is recognized as one of the greatest rock tours of all time. In fact, this tour will continue next year!
