Jakarta -The need for adequate electrical power at home must be considered, especially for those who own electric vehicles. Including the use of subsidized electric motorcycles that can be charged at home. However, we also need good planning so that the home’s electrical system can support it. So, how much electrical power does a house need to charge an electric motor?
Minimum Electrical Power at Home to Charge an Electric Motorcycle
Gesits is one of the subsidized electric motorcycle models that can be charged at home. According to detikOto’s notes quoted from the Gesits motor website, the minimum household electricity power for charging an electric motorcycle is 900 watts.
The Gesits electric motorcycle can cover a distance of up to 100 km if it carries two batteries inside. If it has one battery, then its range reaches 50 km.
But again, this also depends on speed, acceleration, air temperature, road incline, and the load being carried.
Charging an electric motorcycle at home is quite easy. Generally, vehicle owners only need to open the motorcycle seat to take out the battery (swap battery) and charge it at a regular outlet (direct charging).
If the distance is short, it can also be plugged directly into the power socket on the motorcycle. According to the United Motor website, the charging process can be done directly by connecting the electrical socket to a power source with a minimum capacity of 1,300 watts. Besides providing convenience, charging an electric motorcycle at home is often considered more time-efficient. This is because we can take advantage of charging when the motorcycle is not in use. If charging the battery at a Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU), users can use a token voucher purchased through PLN. For the time it takes to charge the battery from 0% to full, it generally takes 3-4 hours.
According to the website of the Two-Wheeled Electric Vehicle Purchase Assistance Information System (SISAPIRa), there are already more than 50 units of electric motorcycles subsidized by the government. Among them are Selis, Honda, United, Yadea, Alva, and Polytron.
However, for the Polytron and Unites brands, the minimum power requirement is greater than that of Gesits, which is 1,300 watts. Meanwhile, to charge the Yadea electric motorcycle at home, it requires at least a minimum household power of 660 watts.
The Honda EM1 e electric motorcycle can also be charged at home. However, Honda itself did not explicitly mention the minimum household electricity power required. They only mentioned that the battery requirement for their motorcycle is 400 watts. “We do not recommend (the minimum electricity needed at home).” We only inform users that the charging output power requirement is approximately 400 watts,” said Reza Resdie from the Technical Service Division (TSD) of PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM).
