Jakarta -The government has set the national tax collection rate to 12 percent starting next year. The implementation of VAT is set for all sectors, including health, does this include BPJS services?
The Indonesian Ministry of Health ensures that the 12 percent VAT in the health sector is only for the very affluent.
“It means those who use premium health services, such as treatment in VIP or VVIP classes,” explained the Indonesian Ministry of Health in its official statement, quoted on Tuesday (24/12/2024).
“Patients receiving healthcare services through JKN/BPJS Kesehatan remain exempt from VAT,” emphasized the Ministry of Health.
The collection of a 12 percent VAT is said by the Indonesian Ministry of Health to be beneficial for funding programs related to community welfare, including health.
The distribution of the budget in health is relatively large, the third largest after education and social protection, amounting to IDR 197.8 trillion.
Taxes are said to support the improvement of access and quality of healthcare services, primarily the priority programs, namely:
- Acceleration of stunting handling
- Disease control
- Free health check-up
- Support for the JKN program
