Police: Prostitution in South Jakarta Boarding House Provided by Residents, Charged at Rp 500 Thousand

Jakarta -The police revealed that prostitution in the boarding houses in the Ulujami area, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, is provided by individuals. The perpetrators charge rates of up to Rp 500,000.

“The rate is around Rp 300,000 to Rp 500,000,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Pesanggrahan Police, Iptu Purwaditya, to reporters on Friday (27/12/2024).

Purwaditya said that prostitution is carried out individually by each tenant of the boarding house. He said that no pimps were detained in connection with the activity.

“It’s just that they are indeed independent individuals, there are no pimps, there is no connection to human trafficking,” he added.

The police have also conducted urine tests on the detained suspects. The result is that they tested negative for narcotics.Currently, the police are still conducting a series of investigations.

“It means the drug urine test has been done and all results were negative,” he added.

9 People Detained

The police arrested several people during a raid on a boarding house in Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, which was suspected of being used for illicit activities. A total of 9 people were secured.

“Eight women and one man have been secured, initial interrogation has been conducted, and it is indeed true that they were engaged in such activities (suspected prostitution),” said Purwaditya.

The police also arrested a security guard from the boarding house. However, the police confirmed that the security guard was not involved in the alleged prostitution activities.

“There was 1 security guard that we temporarily detained yesterday, we brought him in for interrogation but he didn’t confess, meaning the security guard had no role at all in that incident, he was just on duty,” he said.
