Jakarta – After a two-day closure during Christmas, SIM (Driver’s License) issuance services have resumed today, Friday (December 27, 2024). Today, you can even renew a SIM that expired during the Christmas closure.
According to a post on TMC Polda Metro Jaya’s X (Twitter) account, SIM services at Satpas Daan Mogot, DKI Jakarta’s Unit Satpas, DKI Jakarta’s SIM Outlets, and mobile SIM units were closed on Wednesday and Thursday (December 25-26, 2024). Services reopened on Friday, December 27, 2024.
Additionally, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, SIM services at these locations will be closed again, resuming on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Holders of SIMs that expired during the closure period can still renew them without needing to apply for a new one. For SIMs that expired on December 25 or 26, 2024, the renewal can be done between December 27, 2024, and January 3, 2025.
“For SIM holders whose validity expired on December 25, 26, 2024, and January 1, 2025, renewals can be completed from December 27, 2024, to January 3, 2025, following the renewal procedure,” quoted from the TMC Polda Metro Jaya account.
Normally, an expired SIM—even by one day—cannot be renewed. The holder must reapply through the issuance mechanism, including retaking the theory and practical exams. However, during this holiday period, exceptions are made for SIMs that expired precisely when services were unavailable. Note that not all expired SIMs are eligible for renewal—only those with validity lapsing on service closure dates.
