Karawang -National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that traffic violations during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 homecoming period have increased. This was revealed by Sigit after reviewing data from E-TLE.

This was conveyed by the Chief of Police during a coordination meeting regarding the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year homecoming at the Integrated Post of Operation Lilin Lodaya 2024 Rest Area Km 57 Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road. The meeting was also attended by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Pratikno, as well as the ranks of the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri).

“From the number of violations, I see that E-TLE Mobile has increased,” said General Sigit, Friday (27/12/2024).

General Sigit believes that the increase in violations is due to the relatively empty road conditions, causing drivers to speed without paying attention to signs and safety limits.

“Maybe because the lane was a bit empty, then they increased their speed,” he said.

Therefore, General Sigit urged his subordinates to continuously remind drivers to drive safely and orderly. The goal is to anticipate accidents during the homecoming period.

“Don’t let the number of traffic accidents, which has already decreased by 71, almost 54 percent, increase again so that the community can continue to maintain safety for themselves and others,” he said.

General Sigit mentioned that the percentage of traffic accidents during the Christmas 2024 homecoming period has decreased. That conclusion emerged based on the records compiled by his team in the previous year.

“We also see reports that the number of traffic accidents has also decreased quite significantly,” he said.

On the other hand, the Director of Law Enforcement (Dirgakum) of the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri), Brigadier General Raden Slamet Santoso, detailed that there have been 1,066 recorded traffic accidents during the homecoming exodus so far. That number, according to him, has decreased by 11 percent from 2023.

“Until now, we have recorded 1,066 incidents, which is a decrease of almost 11 percent compared to last year,” said Brigadier General Slamet.

“However, for the fatalities, there was an increase of 149, a 2 percent rise compared to last year, while serious and minor injuries decreased by 1,420 people,” he added.

Most accidents, Slamet continued, occur due to fatigue. Therefore, the National Police have deployed a traffic accident analysis team to quickly respond and rescue accident victims.

“The factor of fatigue then caused him to be unable to maintain the distance between one vehicle and another,” explained Slamet.

“The types of vehicles involved in many accidents so far are motorcycle users, heavy transport, and passenger transport,” he concluded.
