Jakarta – South Korean investigators entered President Yoon Suk Yeol’s residence and issued an arrest warrant related to the military emergency announcement made some time ago. Investigators and prosecutors had to pass through extremely tight security barricades to enter Yoon’s residence.
“The execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol has begun,” said the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) as reported by AFP on Friday (3/1/2025).
CIO investigators, including senior prosecutor Lee Dae-hwan, were allowed to pass through tight security barricades to enter Yoon’s residence to carry out the arrest. However, they were confronted by the military.
“They were confronted by a military unit inside after entering,” said the Yonhap news agency in an AFP report.
It is still unclear whether the Presidential Security Team, which still protects Yoon as head of state, will comply with the investigators’ orders.
In an AFP report, the atmosphere around Yoon’s residence was very crowded. Dozens of police buses and hundreds of uniformed officers lined up outside the complex in downtown Seoul. About 2,700 police officers and 135 police buses have been deployed to the area to prevent clashes, after Yoon’s supporters faced off against anti-Yoon demonstrators on Thursday.
Yoon is said to have barricaded himself in his residence since the court approved his arrest warrant earlier this week, and vowed to “resist” authorities attempting to interrogate him over the failed military emergency attempt.
Recently, as reported by the Yonhap News Agency, the Presidential Security Team rejected the search conducted by investigators at Yoon’s residence. However, there have been no detailed reports on that yet.
