Jakarta – The 1445 H/2024 M Hajj transportation operation faced numerous delays, which, according to the Indonesian Parliament (DPR), set a record for the highest number of delays in recent years.

Abdul Wachid, Chairperson of the Hajj Pilgrimage Cost Working Committee (Panja BPIH) of the Indonesian Parliament’s Commission VIII, revealed that over 150 flight groups (kloter) experienced delays out of a total of 557 kloters.

“At least 157 Hajj flight groups experienced delays, with 72 kloters having significant issues. This breaks previous records,” Wachid stated during a hearing with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Hajj Organizing Agency (BPH) on Thursday (2/1/2024).

The causes of these delays varied, including technical issues that created a domino effect on subsequent flights, leading to further delays.

“The causes of flight delays in 2024 included technical issues such as engine fires, fuel leaks, wheel replacements, and malfunctioning air conditioning systems,” he explained.
“These issues caused a domino effect on subsequent flight schedules. Operational problems, such as changes to slot times, further compounded the delays. We hope these issues will not recur,” he added.

Wachid expressed hopes that these challenges can be resolved for the 1446 H/2025 M Hajj period.

“We urge all Hajj airlines present today to ensure that such delays do not occur again during departures or returns for any Hajj groups in the 1446 H or 2025 M period,” he emphasized.
