Muhammadiyah Announces Start of Ramadan 2025 on March 1, Eid on March 30

Jakarta – Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board (PP Muhammadiyah) has officially announced the dates for the start of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha for 1446 H / 2025. The first day of fasting will begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

This announcement is based on the Global Single Hijri Calendar (KHGT) guided by the Majelis Tarjih and Tajdid of PP Muhammadiyah. This calendar replaces the previous method of hisab hakiki wujudul hilal in determining the start of Islamic months.

According to the KHGT, shared by Edy Kuscahyanto, Head of PP Muhammadiyah’s Bureau of Communication and Public Services, the astronomical conjunction (ijtimak) of the end of Sha’ban 1446 H will occur on Friday, February 28, 2025. Hence, Ramadan will begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

“The conjunction at the end of Sha’ban 1446 will occur on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 00:44:38 GMT. The crescent (hilal) is visible in regions where imkanu rukyat criteria are met. Therefore, the start of Ramadan is on Saturday, March 1, 2025,” stated the calendar.
