Tensions Escalate: Houthi Forces Attack US Aircraft Carrier in the Red Sea

Sanaa – The Houthi group based in Yemen announced that its forces targeted a United States (US) aircraft carrier in their latest attack in the northern waters of the Red Sea. The group also claimed to have attacked targets in central and southern Israel.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, in a statement quoted by Middle East Monitor and Anadolu Agency on Wednesday (8/1/2025), claimed that the group had targeted the US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman in the Red Sea.

“Our forces launched a special operation targeting the US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman with two cruise missiles and four drones in the northern Red Sea while the American forces were preparing to carry out massive airstrikes against our country,” Saree stated in a video.

He claimed that the Houthi attack had “thwarted the American assault.”

On December 31, the Houthis claimed they had targeted the USS Harry Truman with several drones and cruise missiles, accusing the US aircraft carrier of preparing an airstrike against Yemen.

In his latest statement, Saree also claimed that the Houthis had launched a series of attacks on Israeli targets in four military operations using missiles and combat drones.

“The first operation during the day targeted an Israeli military site in Jaffa (referring to Tel Aviv) with two drones, while the second operation hit a significant target in occupied Ashkelon with a drone,” Saree said in his statement.

The third operation, Saree stated, targeted an Israeli military site in Jaffa or Tel Aviv with a drone. Details about the fourth operation were not elaborated upon.

“All operations successfully reached their targets,” Saree claimed in his statement.

Saree did not specify further details about the Israeli targets attacked by the Houthis. However, he reiterated the Houthis’ commitment to supporting Palestinian resistance, particularly in the conflict against Israel in the Gaza Strip.

“Our operations in support of Gaza will continue until the aggression ends and the siege is lifted,” he emphasized.

The US and Israel have not yet responded to the Houthis’ claims.
