Jakarta – Throughout the year, Bali has been grappling with issues stemming from its tourism industry. Bali’s tourism associations have approached the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) seeking government collaboration.

Several tourism associations, including the Bali Tourism Industry Association (GIPI), the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Bali, and the Association of Tour and Travel Agencies (ASITA) Bali, visited the DPRD building in Bali.

These associations raised various on-the-ground issues such as traffic congestion, flooding, waste management, and the over-concentration of Bali’s tourism activities.
“These problems are not causes but rather consequences of larger issues. This is something we will begin discussing with the members of the council to address these matters,” said PHRI Bali Chairman Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati (Cok Ace) at the DPRD Bali office on Monday (13/1/2025).

Additionally, the tourism associations highlighted Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 5 of 2020 concerning Bali’s Cultural Tourism Management Standards. Cok Ace pushed for the tourism industry to be incorporated into associations to receive better oversight.

According to Cok Ace, there are thousands of tourism industries in Bali, but only around 400 are registered with associations. Without this registration, it becomes difficult to monitor the supply and demand of Bali’s tourism sector.

The former Deputy Governor of Bali expressed hope that tourism associations could become partners of the government, including the DPRD. He believes that involving associations as government partners would allow better monitoring of industry developments and a clearer understanding of tourism supply and demand in Bali.

Chairman of DPRD Bali, Dewa Made Mahayadnya, also known as Dewa Jack, stated that the tourism players’ visit aimed to explain the role of associations and provide input to the Bali Provincial Government via the DPRD, especially in managing tourism toward a better direction.
