Ceasefire in Gaza Officially Declared, Israel-Hamas Agree to Peace

Jakarta – A permanent ceasefire in Gaza, Palestine, has officially been established. This was announced by Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, serving as mediator, on Wednesday (15/1/2025).

The ceasefire has led both sides to release their respective hostages. The agreement is set to commence on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

A total of 33 hostages will be released in the first phase of the agreement. This could potentially pave the way for permanent peace.

According to AFP, Wednesday (15/1/2025), the warring parties in Gaza have reached an agreement on prisoner and hostage exchanges.

“We hope this will mark the final chapter of the war, and we urge all parties to remain committed to implementing all provisions of this agreement,” emphasized Sheikh Mohammed.

Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas official, described the Gaza ceasefire agreement as a significant achievement that reflects the resilience of Gaza, its people, and the bravery of its heroes.

“This also reaffirms the occupier’s failure to achieve any of its objectives,” Sami Abu Zuhri stated, as reported by Reuters, Thursday (16/1/2025).

During the 15 months of Zionist aggression between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the two sides previously agreed to a ceasefire that lasted only a week.

Since then, Israel continued its assaults on Gaza and the West Bank, resulting in the deaths of over 46,000 Palestinians.
