Beware! Here Are the Signs of Customer Service Scams

Jakarta – In today’s increasingly digital era, customer service access has become easier through phone calls, emails, or social media. Unfortunately, technological advancements are being exploited by irresponsible individuals to carry out scams.

Scammers impersonate customer service representatives, offering assistance to resolve issues for users of certain services, including digital wallets. However, their hidden agenda is to extract personal data and confidential information.

Unwary victims may fall into these traps, resulting in drained bank accounts. To avoid becoming a victim of such schemes, it’s essential to recognize the signs of scams disguised as customer service. Here’s what to look out for:

1. Contact from Unofficial Numbers
Scammers often use phone numbers resembling official customer service or call center numbers. However, these numbers are fake, typically starting with codes like 021, +621, or a plus (+) symbol.
Besides phone calls, fake customer service accounts often contact potential victims via WhatsApp from unofficial numbers. If you receive a call from a suspicious number, stay alert and cautious.

2. Pushy and Forceful Tone
To pressure their targets, scammers disguised as fake customer service often create a sense of panic, such as claiming your account is compromised. In such situations, stay calm and avoid making rushed decisions. It’s wise to verify the caller’s authenticity.

3. Requesting Personal Data
Requesting personal information is a common tactic used by scammers. These fake customer service representatives may ask for critical information, such as a one-time password (OTP) or PIN, claiming it’s necessary to block your account or secure your funds.
However, legitimate customer service from financial institutions will never ask for such personal information while resolving your concerns.

To address the prevalence of such scams, digital wallet app DANA urges users not to share critical account information with anyone. DANA also clarifies that user complaints are only handled via DIANA in the app, email help@dana.id, or call center 1500 445. Complaints through WhatsApp are no longer supported.

Tips to Avoid Scams

DANA shares #BewareOfScams tips to help users protect themselves:

  • Monitor
Always verify the authenticity of accounts or links contacting you, claiming to be from DANA. If suspicious representatives ask for your personal data, such as a PIN or OTP, never share it. Authentic DANA customer service will never request this information.
  • Confirm
Use DANA’s Protection feature in the app to double-check suspicious accounts, numbers, or links. This ensures you can confidently verify whether the contact is legitimate.
  • Report
If you encounter suspicious activity, immediately report it via the Report Number feature in the DANA Protection page. You will be connected to Komdigi’s services. This not only protects you from online fraud but also helps other DANA users avoid scams.

Stay safe by accessing information only through official DANA platforms: their website at https://dana.id and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram: @dana.id). Also, utilize the DIANA feature in the DANA app or email help@dana.id to avoid scams from unauthorized parties.
