News26 Views

Jakarta – The ranking of the world’s safest airlines for 2025 has been released. Are there any Indonesian airlines on the list?

AirlineRatings.com has once again published its annual rankings of the safest full-service and low-cost airlines. The list aims to help passengers make informed choices for their flights.

The website surveyed 385 airlines based on nine categories to determine the safest airlines in the world. These categories include serious incidents over the past two years, fleet age, fleet size, incident rates, fatalities, profitability, IOSA certification, ICAO country audit compliance, as well as pilot skills and training.

At the top spot, Air New Zealand was chosen for its high safety standards, young fleet, and excellent pilot training. Following closely was Qantas, an Australian airline ranked second among the safest full-service airlines.

Interestingly, Iberia and Vietnam Airlines made their debut on the list, ranking 16th and 22nd, respectively.

For low-cost carriers, Hong Kong Express claimed the title of the safest, thanks to its nearly flawless safety record. It was followed by other low-cost carriers like Jetstar Group, Ryanair, and easyJet, which took second, third, and fourth places, respectively.

“It was a very close race between Air New Zealand and Qantas for the top spot, with just 1.50 points separating the two airlines. Although both airlines uphold the highest standards of safety and pilot training, Air New Zealand continues to have a younger fleet than Qantas, which makes the difference,” said AirlineRatings.com CEO Sharon Petersen, as quoted by Independent, Thursday (16/1/2025).

Meanwhile, despite some recent aviation tragedies, air travel remains one of the safest modes of transportation.
