Jakarta – The public can now exchange used cooking oil through the Used Cooking Oil (UCO) collection program. This initiative, led by PT Pertamina (Persero) through PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, offers an opportunity for people to turn used cooking oil into cash.
The program, named Green Movement UCO, is a pilot project set to run for one year. Pertamina collaborates with noovoleum, an internationally certified UCOllect Box provider specializing in collecting used cooking oil (UCO).
Heppy Wulansari, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, stated that the Green Movement UCO embodies the principles of a circular economy. Used cooking oil, often regarded as household waste, will be collected and processed by a Pertamina Group subsidiary into biofuels such as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
“This initiative not only reduces household waste but also becomes part of a cleaner and more environmentally friendly energy solution,” Heppy said in a statement on Friday (17/1/2024).
Those who deposit used cooking oil into UCollect Boxes will receive rewards in the form of e-wallet credits starting from Rp 6,000/liter, along with an additional 5 MyPertamina points per liter. The public can exchange used cooking oil for cash at several designated points.
Currently, there are six collection points available: Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Office for West Java in Central Jakarta, Pertamina Central Hospital in South Jakarta, SPBU 31.401.01 Dago Bandung, SPBU 31.128.02 MT Haryono South Jakarta, SPBU 31.134.02 Kalimalang East Jakarta, and SPBU 31.153.01 BSD South Tangerang.
Heppy affirmed that these six points will be evaluated for expansion to other locations across Indonesia. Pertamina Patra Niaga offers various benefits to participants in this program. Those who deposit used cooking oil into UCollect Boxes will earn rewards in the form of e-wallet credits starting from Rp 6,000/liter and an additional 5 MyPertamina points per liter.
Since its launch on December 21, 2024, the Green Movement UCO program has collected 1,162 liters of used cooking oil at six UCollect Box locations, as well as at several gas stations and IHC Pertamina hospitals. This effort will continue to expand and facilitate public participation in managing household used cooking oil waste.
