Jakarta – U.S. President-elect Donald Trump reportedly plans to temporarily relocate approximately 2 million Palestinian residents from Gaza to several countries, including Indonesia. The plan is still under discussion by Trump’s transition team.

The information was conveyed by a member of Trump’s transition team in an interview with NBC News. Initially, Trump’s envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, was scheduled to visit the Gaza Strip to oversee the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

“Witkoff will also remain in the region for several weeks or months to address issues arising on the ground,” the official stated, as reported on Monday (1/20/2025).

Trump’s transition team is reportedly seeking long-term solutions to prevent uprisings in Gaza, with one proposal involving the relocation of Gaza residents.

“If we don’t help Gaza residents, improve their living conditions, and give them hope, an uprising is inevitable,” the official said.

According to NBC News, discussions are ongoing about the temporary relocation of Gaza residents to several countries, including Indonesia. “Indonesia, for instance, is being discussed as one of the potential destinations,” the official added.

However, NBC’s report noted that the idea of relocation is controversial among Palestinians and the Arab world, as it is seen as a first step by Israel to force Gaza residents off their land.

Israeli media outlet The Times of Israel also highlighted the news with the headline: ‘Trump Team Considers Relocation of Gaza Residents During Post-War Reconstruction.’ The report stated that Indonesia is one of the countries being considered for temporary relocation.

Foreign Ministry’s Response Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it has not received any information regarding the plan.

“The Indonesian government has never received any information about this matter,” said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat to reporters.
