Number of Layoff Victims Reaches 77,000, Majority in Jakarta

Jakarta – The number of layoffs recorded from January to December 2024 reached 77,965 individuals. This figure is based on data released by the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) on the Satudata Kemnaker website.

“During the period of January-December 2024, there were 77,965 workers who were laid off,” the website stated, as viewed by detikcom on Wednesday (January 22, 2025).

This number is higher compared to layoffs throughout 2023. In 2023, Kemnaker recorded 64,855 layoffs.

“During the period of January-December 2023, there were 64,855 workers who were laid off. The highest number of layoffs was in West Java Province, accounting for approximately 29.63% of the total,” another Kemnaker data indicated.

Jakarta holds the status of the province with the highest number of layoffs, totaling 17,085 individuals or 21.91% of all layoffs in 2024. This number surpasses the layoffs in Central Java, which amounted to 13,130 individuals.

The top five provinces with the highest number of layoffs are all located on the island of Java. Here is the list of the top five provinces with the most layoffs:

  1. DKI Jakarta: 17,085 individuals
  2. Central Java: 13,130 individuals
  3. Banten: 13,042 individuals
  4. West Java: 10,661 individuals
  5. East Java: 5,327 individuals
