Jakarta -The government has made achieving food self-sufficiency a top priority. The quality of food crop seeds plays an important role in achieving that target.
Members of the ID Food State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Food Holding, PT Sang Hyang Seri (SHS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), prepare and distribute certified rice seeds to farmers throughout Indonesia. The hope is that all farmers can use certified rice seeds so that national rice productivity can increase by up to 20%.
“With the use of certified rice seeds, farmers can enjoy higher quality harvests, increase their income, and ultimately strengthen national food security.” “This is part of our commitment to support President Prabowo’s vision in his first 100 days in office,” said the President Director of Sang Hyang Seri, Adhi Cahyono Nugroho in a written statement, Friday (24/1/2025).
In addition, SHS continues to collaborate with PT Pupuk Indonesia to ensure the implementation of fertilization based on soil characteristics, such as in Sukamandi, West Java. Thus, efficiency and crop yields can be maximized.
Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, during his visit to PT Sang Hyang Seri to check on the rice seed issues. He stated that improvements in the seed sector could eliminate the need for rice imports in Indonesia.
“If we just improve the seeds, then our (production) can increase by 20 percent.” Well, if it increases by 20 percent, we won’t need to import anymore, Sir,” said Zulkifli Hasan.
“It means there is a fundamental problem regarding the superior seeds that our rice farmers need to plant in those areas,” he added.
