Jakarta -The registration period for the 2025 LPDP Scholarship Phase 1 is currently open. Is it true that the LPDP Scholarship this year focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)?
Members of the ID Food State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Food Holding, PT Sang Hyang Seri (SHS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), prepare and distribute certified rice seeds to farmers throughout Indonesia. The hope is that all farmers can use certified rice seeds so that national rice productivity can increase by up to 20%.
“STEM does indeed have a shift, but it doesn’t mean that social aspects are completely neglected.” “Because social aspects are also important, but we will focus on them later for those with higher impact, the social ones, so they are truly high impact,” he said after the working meeting of Commission X of the DPR with the Ministry of Education and Technology at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (January 23, 2025).
“And it is also needed in our country, for example, issues of economic growth, diversification, diversity, multiculturalism, culture, intercultural matters, up to negotiations in various fields or internationally,” he said.
Togar said that the needs assessment (gap) in the future will continue to ensure that LPDP Scholarship graduates, especially in the STEM fields, can be absorbed into the workforce and supported by infrastructure.
“This is evaluated every year.” Because there might be new arrivals in the STEM field that we previously educated, and they have already grown, why should we increase the numbers? Later, there will be fewer job opportunities, and there will also be a lack of infrastructure to support them,” he said.
Previously, the LPDP Scholarship was said to be reviewed to ensure its effectiveness. Regarding this news, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendikti Saintek) Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro stated that the review of the LPDP scholarship is aimed at ensuring that the funding for Indonesian students’ education aligns with government programs.
“What is being reviewed is how we ensure that the funded projects align with the government’s program.” That aligns with the Red and White Cabinet,” said Satryo after a working meeting with Commission X of the DPR at the DPR Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/11/2024).
Satryo said that LPDP scholarship recipients in the future will focus on supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s programs, namely in food self-sufficiency, energy self-sufficiency, water supply, and downstreaming.
He said that the above priorities do not rule out the possibility for LPDP scholarship applicants in other fields of study.
“In other fields, if there is something outstanding and worthy of funding, we will fund it,” he said.
He said that the number of LPDP scholarship recipients is also expected to continue to rise. “If we want the number of recipients to keep increasing every year, then we should just focus on the government programs,” he said.
