German Chancellor Calls Trump’s Plan to Take Over Gaza a ‘Scandal’

JakartaU.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a controversial idea to take over and claim ownership of the Gaza Strip. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has condemned Trump’s plan as a “scandal.”

Trump’s statement that the U.S. should take control of Gaza has sparked global outrage. He also proposed relocating Gaza’s population and turning it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

According to AFP on Monday (February 10, 2025), Scholz, speaking in a pre-election TV debate, called the plan a “scandal” and stated that “the relocation of people is unacceptable and violates international law.”

His conservative electoral rival, Friedrich Merz, agreed with this assessment, saying, “I share this opinion.”

However, Merz also noted that Trump’s statement is part of a series of proposals coming from the U.S. government. He suggested that people should analyze what Trump actually meant by his remarks.

“We must wait and see what is seriously intended and how it will be implemented. There may be a lot of rhetoric involved,” Merz added.

Trump’s Plan to Take Over Gaza

Donald Trump has proposed that the United States take control of the Gaza Strip, an idea that has been strongly opposed worldwide.

As reported by detikcom on Sunday (February 9, 2025), Trump made the statement during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. In a shocking announcement, Trump declared that the U.S. would take over Gaza and develop its economy after relocating its Palestinian residents elsewhere.

Trump suggested a “long-term ownership” of Gaza by the United States. He boasted that the U.S. would flatten Gaza, clear all destroyed buildings, and launch economic development, creating thousands of jobs.

He claimed this plan would be “something to be proud of” and bring major stability to the Middle East.

In his latest statement, Trump asserted that Israel would hand over Gaza to the U.S. once the war against Hamas ended.

“Gaza will be handed over to the United States by Israel at the end of the fighting,” Trump declared in his latest statement on his social media platform Truth Social, as reported by Al Arabiya on Friday (February 7, 2025).

Trump also clarified that U.S. troops would not be needed in Gaza, contradicting earlier statements where he did not rule out military deployment to the region.

The world has reacted strongly to Trump’s controversial idea. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as reported by AFP and Al Arabiya, firmly rejected Trump’s plan, emphasizing that Palestinians would never give up their land, rights, or holy sites.
