Jakarta – Two Italian teams suffered defeats in the first leg of the Champions League playoffs held on Thursday early morning WIB. Atalanta lost away to Club Brugge, while AC Milan was defeated by Feyenoord in Rotterdam.
Of the four playoff matches played, the duel between Club Brugge vs Atalanta took place first at 00:45 WIB at Jan Breydel Stadium, Brugge. The home team won thanks to a goal from Ferran Jutgla in the 15th minute and a penalty from Gustaf Nilsson in second-half injury time.
Atalanta could only respond once through a header by Mario Pasalic, finishing a cross from Davide Zappacosta in the 41st minute.
Moving to De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam, a shot from Igor Paixao that was poorly handled by goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the 3rd minute was enough to give Feyenoord a victory, securing an advantage ahead of the second leg next week at San Siro.
Next, Bayern Munich silenced Celtic 2-1 in Glasgow. Nicolas Kuhn initially made Celtic Park roar after scoring in the first minute, but the goal was disallowed due to Adam Idah’s offside position.
Bayern then scored two goals through Michael Olise and Harry Kane. Celtic could only respond once through Daizen Maeda’s header.
Lastly, Benfica secured a narrow 1-0 victory over AS Monaco at Stade Louis II. The only goal for the team nicknamed As Aguias was scored by Vangellis Pavlidis with a chip in the 48th minute after receiving a through pass from Tomas Araujo.
The second-leg playoffs will take place next Wednesday and Thursday early morning next week. Eight slots are up for grabs for qualification to the Round of 16.
