Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto mentioned Indonesia’s national football team’s loss to Australia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers during a cabinet plenary meeting. Prabowo stated that there are many new players and a new coach for the national team.
This was conveyed by Prabowo during his speech at the cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday (March 21, 2025). Prabowo said that the public is still concerned about the Indonesia national team.
“Yes, maybe we are still concerned that our national football team hasn’t succeeded yet, but we are confident that it will get better in the coming times,” said Prabowo, which was met with applause from the ministers.
Prabowo also mentioned the new team and coach. “This is also a new team, a new coach. So, I believe we will achieve something good,” he added.
Prabowo emphasized that football is an important matter that the government must pay attention to. He does not want Indonesia’s sports achievements to be underestimated by other nations.
“Football is important because our people feel that football represents our determination. Indonesia must not be underestimated by any nation in the world, especially in things like sports,” he said.
It is known that the Garuda squad played against Australia in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The Garuda team lost 1-5 to Australia.
