Timerilis.com – Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria encouraged the journalism industry to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) technology, such as content creation, content aggregation, content distribution, and content utilization.

“In the future, the journalism industry needs to be open-minded and adopt AI technology,” said Deputy Minister Nezar during the “Indonesia Digital Conference Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Transformation Ethical Challenges, Innovation, Productivity, and Competitiveness in Various Sectors”, in a press release on Tuesday.

The existence of intelligence technology is considered to be an opportunity for the development of the journalism industry in the country. He said artificial intelligence is not only able to increase work efficiency but, also boost the value of journalism and media parties.

The deputy minister born in Sigli, Aceh, who is now 51 years old, believes that the journalism industry and digital media will be able to grow along with technological developments.

However, Nezar does not deny that for now the impact of the use of artificial intelligence technology on journalism activities has not been seen significantly.

Nezar hopes that in the next few years, the public will enjoy media content resulting from artificial intelligence or a mixture of AI in journalism activities.

Quoted from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism’s 2023 report, Nezar said that currently the use of artificial intelligence technology in journalism-related activities is still in the form of searching for recommendations and has not become a big part of decision-making.

“Even though AI allows image recognition for automatic tagging, summary preparation, and content personalization to increase user interaction,” said the man who is known as an activist in the 1998 Reform movement.

The Indonesia Digital Conference Artificial Intelligence for Industry Transformation Ethical Challenges, Innovation, Productivity, and Competitiveness in Various Sectors was also attended by AMSI Chairman, Wenseslaus Manggut and USAID Mission Director, Jeffrey P. Cohen.(Eva/Rd)
