Disney+ Create Rules to Restrict Account-Sharing Practices

Timerilis.com – Following in the footsteps of Netflix, Disney will create rules to restrict its users from sharing their Disney+ movie broadcasting service account passwords with others.

CEO of Disney, Bob Iger said that the practice of password sharing on the Disney+ platform is significant and the company is actively working to find methods to control it.

“We already have the technical capability to monitor most of this (password sharing). And I’m not going to give you a specific number, except to say that it (password sharing) is significant,” Bob said in Disney’s Q2 2023 earnings presentation, quoted by Tech Crunch, Thursday (10/8).

Iger revealed that Disney will announce new provisions on account sharing by the end of this year and the restrictive measures are planned to be effective in 2024.

“Later this year, we will begin updating our customer agreements with additional terms on (account) sharing policies, and we will launch tactics to drive monetization around 2024,” Iger said.

Previously, Netflix has taken action to curb account sharing by charging extra for users who share their account access with others. The policy has been in effect in the United States since May and will be expanded globally.

Movie broadcasting companies are currently facing stagnant subscriber growth and difficult economic conditions. Several strategies have been implemented by movie broadcasting service providers to attract subscribers such as restrictions on account sharing and offering cheaper subscription tiers. (Eva/Rd)
