Gesits, Selis, Volta Prepare for Expansion to Face Electric Motor Incentives

Jakarta, Timerilis.com – The government has announced an incentive rate for electric motorbikes of IDR 7M starting on March 20, 2023. But, only three domestic motorcycle manufacturers will get it, Gesits, Selis, and Volta.

The three companies are chosen for the incentive to purchase electric motorcycles because they have met the Domestic Content Level (TKDN) of 40 percent.

Wima Gesits Director Bernardi Djumiril said, currently Gesits continues to try to innovate to enlarge and multiply products for the future and does not rule out the possibility of looking for partners to increase production.

“Our existing capacity is still following our roadmap, which is to run according to capacity first. If there are dynamics, we will try to find (a solution). If we can’t internally, we will look for partners,” he told reporters, in Jakarta, Friday (10/3/2023).

Meanwhile, Selis Operational Director Wilson Teoh said that the production capacity for electric motors is 3,600 units per month and will increase capex to boost production.

“The capacity of 12,000 units per month is still producing electric bicycles and other types of vehicles outside of electric motors. Our electric motorcycle is 3,600 units per month, so this is still small compared to the government’s target of 200,000 units. But through this opportunity, we can quickly expand in terms of additional capex to meet it,” said Wilson.

Volta Indonesia Semesta CEO Iwan Suryaputra said, currently Volta has three models and will continue to develop five more models until the end of 2023. So, it has eight models.

“Regarding our production capacity of 100,000 a year but this is one shift. If there is a surge, we can do three shifts. If it’s not enough, we can collaborate with other manufacturers to increase our production lines,” Iwan said. (Eva/Rd)
